Hosting a Christian Economic
Development Institute (CEDI)
For those ministering to the poor in the Two-Thirds World, the Chalmers Center partners with churches and ministries who sponsor and host local Christian Economic Development Institutes (CEDI). A CEDI is classroom-based training that is five days long with 7½ hours of class-time per day.
Five courses are offered. Courses #1 and #2 are each one day long. Courses #3-5 are three days long and held simultaneously as electives. For a description of the courses, click here. CEDI training and training material is in English.
The Chalmers Center is responsible for delivering the training and providing the training material. The host organization is responsible for managing the training event. Key responsibilities of the ministry sponsoring the CEDI include:
- Guarantee that a minimum of 75 participants will attend the training for the entire week
- Select the training site – The site must include one large classroom and smaller classrooms along with facilities for housing and meals
- Provide email and telephone access for registration
- Handle all participant communication including promotion/advertising, inquiries, screening and registration, and registration confirmation
- Provide the Chalmers Center with weekly updates on registration status
- Collect all registration fees and manage any refunds
- Manage on-site participant sign-in
- Manage the training event, including logistics for food and lodging
- Cover the cost of food and lodging for Chalmers instructors and support staff
- Cover the travel costs for Chalmers instructors and support staff
- Provide 2-3 people full-time during the training event to handle issues, questions, or problems related to facilities, meals, transportation or medical
