Self/Group-study Material
The Chalmers Center offers training in self/group-study format. This training format is appropriate if:
- You prefer the freedom and flexibility to study at your own pace, are self-disciplined and can continue to work through the lessons on you own without outside motivation and accountability.
- A group such as a Sunday school class or a ministry team would like to study the Chalmers ministry training material together.
Learning Process
The self-study course is a series of study sessions utilizing a text book, a lesson DVD, and a workbook. You will learn through:
- Video – A recorded DVD lesson for each session.
- Readings - Required readings for each lesson and also recommended readings as time and interest permit. The readings will include documents in Microsoft Word, Adobe .pdf format, and links to pages on the Internet.
- Written Assignments – Short written assignments of 1-3 pages that challenge you to reflect on the lesson’s required readings and apply them to your community/ministry context.
- Field Research – Field project as may be outlined in the course material that challenges you to go to your target ministry community to do basic social research and apply it to the readings.
- Peer-Learning – Dialogue with other participants in the group-study class providing an opportunity to learn from their insight, knowledge, and experience. (For group-study only)
Courses
Currently, we have only one course available in self/group-study format: Course #2 in the International Ministry Track, Principles and Practices of Christian Microfinance and Microenterprise Development. The prerequisite for this course is Course #1 in the International Track, Foundations and Principles of Holistic Ministry. If you have not yet taken this prerequisite course, take it first through distance learning before going through the self/group-study material.
We are planning to release other courses in self/group-study format. These courses will utilize a book and web-deployed material. Visit our web site at a later time to learn more about these new courses.
