Prayer Request |
How God Is Answering |
1. Please pray that God would sanctify all of us here at the Chalmers Center so that our own sin would not prevent God from using us to extend His kingdom, to strengthen His church, and to glorify His name. Please do not read anything into this request. There are no scandals here. We are just very aware that we are sinners who need God to continue to shape and to mold us so that He can use us to accomplish His work. |
God continues to work and shape each one of us here both individually and as a team. Please continue to pray that we will love, support, and encourage one another. |
2. Please pray that God would help us as we prepare for the Chalmers Center's Christian Economic Development Institute to be held in Ghana during June 9-14, 2008. Please ask God to send the right people to this training event so that His church would be strengthened in its ministry to the poor. |
God really answered so many prayers. We were blessed with 77 people from the following countries: Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Congo, Togo, Benin, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Burundi, Senegal, Canada, and the United States. Participants were very pleased with the Institute, and we are receiving encouraging reports that some of them are already using their training to help the poor. Please see the recent edition of our newsletter, Mandate, for a fuller description of this event. Praise God for answered prayer! Please pray that God will help the participants to move ahead effectively in ministry. |
3. We have been engaged in a year-long strategic planning process. While we have made considerable progress, there are still a number of issues to resolve. Please pray that God will grant wisdom to all of the various decision makers and stakeholders about the best way forward. Please pray that God will give everyone involved a great passion for Christ’s kingdom above all else. |
God is really at work in this area. Please pray specifically for meetings we will be having in the coming month with members of the administration of Covenant College, our parent organization. Please pray that Satan will not gain a foothold and that God will crush him. |
4. Please pray for restored health for Steve Corbett, one of the Chalmers Center's staff members. Steve had hip surgery back in December and has had a very painful and long recovery. Please pray that God will give Steve renewed strength and energy. |
In general, Steve’s health has really improved. We can all praise God for this!! But last week he suffered a bit of a setback, so please continue to uphold him in prayer. |
5. Brian Fikkert and Steve Corbett are currently co-authoring a book for Moody Press. Please pray for Brian and Steve as they face pressing deadlines. Please ask God to give them the right words. |

6. Please pray for Smita Donthamsetty, a Chalmers staff member in the Dominican Republic, as she prepares for her wedding at the end of August. Please pray that she and her new husband will have a strong and Christ-centered marriage. |

7. Please pray for the Chalmers Center’s Global Fellowship of Trainers (GFT). The GFT consists of people from around the world who are training or preparing to train using the Chalmers Center’s materials. Please pray that God would help these people to master the content of the materials and to have opportunities to train churches to minister to low-income people around the world. |
As a result of the Institute we offered in Ghana, we now have applications from many West Africans who would like to join the GFT. Praise God!! Please ask God to give us wisdom in sorting through the applications. And please pray that God would help the new trainers to learn all the materials. |
| 8. Please pray for a grant proposal that the Chalmers Center has submitted to a Christian foundation. Please pray that God will provide the resources to accomplish His work. |
This foundation denied our grant request several months ago, but they are now reconsidering a smaller request. Please pray for a favorable response. |
| 9. Please pray for Brian Fikkert as he speaks at a number of conferences in August. Please pray that God will give him the right words so that he will be a blessing to the audiences. |

10. Please pray for Rhonda McEwen and Mark Bowers of the Chalmers Center as they work on a major project to integrate biblical worldview messages into technical curricula in the areas of small business training, household financial management, and health. |
