Distance Learning

The Chalmers Center distance learning courses use the Internet to create a virtual classroom and a training process that does not require the instructor and the participants to be engaged in the learning process at the very same time. The course takes place in weekly lessons that are facilitated and managed with e-mail and web deployed/accessible course material and resources.

Learning Process
In the distance courses, you will learn through:

  1. Readings - The readings include both required readings as well as recommended readings that you can pursue as time and interest permit. Readings will consist of documents in Microsoft Word, Adobe .pdf format, and links to pages on the Internet.
  2. Assignments – Assignments consist of participant response to focused questions that  challenge you to reflect on the week’s required readings and apply them to your community/ministry context.
  3. Peer-Learning – Interaction with other participants in the class provides an opportunity to learn from other's insight, knowledge, and experience.  This interaction will take place primarily through Internet threaded discussions on assigned or supplemental questions, and may also take place through email interaction with members of your learning group in response to the assignment submissions. (The threaded discussions are facilitated through a Chalmers Center Internet discussion forum in which each discussion "thread" is centered on a particular topic.)
  4. Instructor Feedback - Weekly summaries from the instructor highlight key points/issues and/or comments from participant submissions and interaction.  Direct personal feedback from the instructor increases as the participant progresses from orientation to skills-based implementation courses.

Courses
The Chalmers Center offers distance learning courses in both the International Ministry Track and the US/Canada Ministry Track.

Note:  Not all of the Chalmers Center courses are offered in distance learning format.
