"We are excited...and a little bit scared because back in our ministry we have a lot of work to do! Here, at this Institute, we are learning a lot and are really looking forward to getting back home and implementing it."
Rebecca Goodwin, Abundant Life Ministries, Charlottesville, VA

"The Chalmers Center training has given us the ability to take a look at finances, not only from a business perspective, but from the perspective of what Christ called us to do. Chalmers does a great job!"
John Turrubiartes, New City Fellowship, Chicago, IL
Foundations and Principles of Holistic Ministry

This course lays the foundation for understanding the appropriate goals and strategies for working in low-income communities. We do this by addressing the following key questions in Christian economic development:

  • "What causes poverty?" and why this question matters.
  • Should development be based upon people's needs and/or their assets?
  • Who determines the kind of development that is done and how it is implemented?
  • How should the local church respond to poverty?
  • What harm can come from doing relief when the situation calls for development? (U.S. Track only)
  • What impact does worldview have on poverty and development? (Two-Thirds World Track only)
