A Missionary’s Journal: Bringing the Idea for a Ministry to a Church

Abstract:
In this working paper, a missionary to the Philippines describes her role in prompting an upper middle class church to use a Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) and Accumulating Savings and Credit Associations (ASCAs) as a ministry to a low income community. This community is located next to the church. The church had made a number of attempts to reach out to the community, but they had all failed. This paper outlines her interactions with church leaders and the outcomes of her interactions. Through her story, she communicates the ways in which ROSCAs and ASCAs can be used in powerful ways to exhibit loving concern to a community in need.
